Psychopaths are everywhere. And before the Internet it was only possible to know about them once you were in a relationship with one of them. It is difficult to spot a psychopath, they look just like us. The Internet allows a sort of virtual approach. To know that a target will read a message gives the psychopath a feeling of closeness. So the Internet gives the possibility to spot them easily. In Baby Reindeer you can see that Donny gives that space that the psychopath needs on order to develope her psychopathy... to let it go deeper and deeper. And now that Fiona made herself a public figure we can see the deepening of this process. She is already suing Morgan... and she will still get more attention. So Richard Gadd gave to Fiona the same thing that I would give to a psychopath: all that the psychopath wants in order to see if there is any bottom.

We can still applaud the series for its great storytelling and characterisations but why are we labelling Richard Gadd a victim when he was instrumental in most of the bad situations that happened in his life. Instead of reporting Darrian to the police, he goes back to his flat again after the SA. Martha is supposed to be a stalker yet on more than one occasion he's seen encouraging her advances and appears as obsessed with her as she is with him. I sympathise with his harrowing SA ordeal but aside from that, he was his own worst enemy in how he went about dealing with situations.

We all know what parts were exaggerated by how Fiona clung to them like a life boat. She knew details without supposedly watching the show and wants to sue because the character she didn’t watch it’s portraying her but also the character isn’t her.

Wait, Jaida?! Is that why Latrice doesn't show up in the first episodes of We're Here? Also, we don't know them or live with them either. We've become so emeshed and like obsessed with celebrities that we take some things personal and it's like, ho-ney, are ya'll even neighbors or cousins of these people? 😂

My biggest issue with the "real Martha" getting all this publicity is it basically has made Richard her target all over again. I actually missed the "based on a true story bit" because I was distracted when I hit play on Netflix and watched the whole thing as fiction. Finding out it was based on real events and that the lead actor was also the victim of a stalker like Martha made me appreciate the artistry of it. Everyone's now distracted by being true crime sleuths instead of enjoying the art for the art and the catharsis it hopefully allowed its author. And I find it rather disgusting.

Its worthy of note with paste magazine is notorious for bad faith reviews of Taylors albums, obviously nobody deserved to be harassed or threatened for their opinions but when you claim, as the reviewer for paste magazine did for Lover that it is problematic to find English accent attractive because of Brexit or that the line "Barefoot in the Kitchen" was sexist because Taylor is a woman who dares to set foot in a kitchen you do open yourself up, I would argue deservedly so, to some level of ridicule. I also think the writer of the TTPD review for Paste magazine was hiding behind anonymity in order to say some truly nasty and petty stuff beginning the article with the line "Sylvia Plath did not stick her head in an oven for this!" a truly vile thing to say, seeming to suggest Plath's Suicide was some kind of artistic statement, in my mind you shouldn't be able to say stuff like that in an official publication and hide behind anonymity under the excuse of safety.

I really love this album and I think It's going to age well, I think the negative reaction towards it is largely due to her overexposure rather than the quality of the actual album, I think it's some of her most interesting work and its frustrating to see alot of people be really downright bad faith and also mean to people who liked it, I loved the spectrum pulse review of TTPD because it actually took the time to consider the album on its own terms and also criticised the more common bad faith critiques of the album that where common after the first day of release, I didn't agree with everything he said but he was fair and made some points nobody else was making definitely the best, most thoughtful review ive seen of this album.

I love Baby Reindeer as a series, best piece of TV in years. Masterpiece on all fronts. But, I will say I do feel it to be verging into slight narcissism on Richard’s part, and it feels like it’s partly motivated by ego and achieving everything he admitted to needing in his stand-up breakdown, rather than solely wanting to share an experience to resonate and raise awareness. But that might be expected. My opinion started to shift when Fiona came forward and it became evident that despite his claims that he had changed the stalkers character so much they probably wouldn’t even recognise themselves, Martha turned out to be an exact carbon copy of Martha. So what’s the play there? I don’t think the story is as clear cut, it never is, but considering some of the main events in the show were actually not true (Martha getting arrested), and it was marketed as a true story, I feel it calls Richard’s credibility into question

I think is more than ok to expose an stalker like her, I don’t find any reason to protect people like her. There is this case on Venezuela about a bunch of women being harassed by another woman doing crazy stuff just like Martha (turns out that her brother is an stalker too) Please look for the stalker from “El Hatillo”. What a nightmare!

I LOVED this video and I really appreciate you sharing your story. I had a lot of the same thoughts and questions about the ethics of the show while watching it. I ultimately settled on the thought that even with all its potential problems, the catharsis the show brought to people who've struggled with these taboo subjects is why it needed to be made. The show is a necessary and honest depiction of victimhood; the good, the bad, and the ugly.

She didn’t have to out herself. I also can’t help but feel sorry for her for doing so, she clearly has mental health struggles if even half of the things we “know” about her are true. So I guess I feel that she’s a victim to herself, not the show.

I love the first half of the album, but the second half feels a bit lackluster and empty. At some point, it doesn't even feel like synth pop like Fornite introduced, it just felt like folklore for example: Cassandra. It feels uncomplete tbh and I feel like she villianise the people in her life (this coming from a swiftie who owns 5 Taylor Swift CDs, listen to her almost everyday and has a poster of her on my wall) I am inlove with TTPD's first half (the songs that were first introduced) the second half featured in the anthology kinda feels more incomplete. TLDR: I like the first half of TTPD more (idk why I just wrote an entire novel-)

I just wish the reviews were more nuanced. As a swiftie, all the reviews came out in like 1-2 days and miss everything that makes the album good and bad. That's my issues w/ the reviews. It doesn't feel like anybody actually professionally analyzed the album or the lyrics etc... they just said their opinion and posted the articles, often missing the point of everything they were critiquing. I definitely don't think this is her best album, and I think the best reviews ignore the downsides to songs like ttpd and alchemy, but the bad reviews seemingly don't even consider the lyrics have meaning connected to other lyrics within the song and it feels like they looked at every lyric in a vacuum and not with intention or just looked at this album at lens of production, which kind of ignore the main part of it.. ehhh. I just wish everyone took a little more time and was a little less biased.

If this were a woman (Richard I mean) everyone would be screaming into the hills to TELL YOUR TRUTH! YOU GO GIRL! TELL YOUR STORY! GET YOUR CATHARSIS! ITS YOUR STORY TO TELL! And the man/stalker would be LYNCHED, CANCELLED, and INSTANTLY criminally looked into. People would be raked over the coals for "victim blaming" Richard Gadd, they would stand up for his past with drugs and promiscuity (because those aren't reasons to be treated that way. The"short skirt" isnt an excuse). Because this is a man, we have all the opposite and empathy for Fiona. It's fucking wild how humans behave.

I work in the mental health field, and I have some thoughts on your anecdote. Unfortunately, a lot of the time, for someone to get the help that they need, there needs to be a significant catalyst. For people with serious mental illness, this means an interaction with the legal system. In the state I live in, that doesn’t mean immediate inpatient, and we do have programs that allow people to exist in the community with the extra help they need to function (medication, therapy, etc.) It is incredibly frustrating that it has to come to that point of interacting with the courts, but for people with severe and debilitating paranoia, seeking help is nearly impossible. I work with parents that I sometimes (regretfully) wish were forced to participate in therapy for the sake of their children, but because there is technically not a legal issue, there is nothing I can do to facilitate this. All this to say that, as someone who has had an ex-partner with stalker-adjacent tendencies, you did the right thing to inform the authors. They deserve to know this, and they may not have had the proof to file a restraining order prior to your emails. You gave them the freedom to choose protection.

Ignoring this specific situation and specific people involved, her case was essentially that a very unflattering character was made using her likeness and used certain phrases that made it easy for people online to track down the real person the character was based on. So would this fall under some type of defamation lawsuit despite the name change for the character?

As woman with a stalker and a history of SA, Baby Reindeer broke me and I personally have no sympathy for Fiona, she dug her own grave with her actions and I agree with the people that part of why people sympathize with her does has to do with her being a woman. I bet all of you would judge my stalker more harshly even though he hasn't assaulted me or anyone close to me (yet) unlike Fiona is implied to have in the show. He's this scrawny man in at least his fifties that stalks me almost exclusively in summer months ever since I was 20 (I'm currently 26), often wears a ratty cap and has this pair of thick lensed glasses that enlarges his eyes a bit and makes his psychotic stare even more obvious. He's kept harassing me all because I was raised to be polite and greeted him once or twice when he drove by when I was doing grocery shopping. That's all it took for him to start mapping out my routes and following me, and sometimes he would wait until I was all alone at home as I still live with my mother and then he'd keep ringing the doorbell and trying to get in my home. Once or twice, he got so persistent that I was shaking with a kitchen knife in my hand, afraid he'd actually break in. I fear him crawling out of the woordworks now summer has arrived once more. I don't care how mentally ill he is, I am autistic and have C-PTSD myself but I would NEVER harass someone to the point they would be scared of their life. Richard is a brave man and asking him to protect the person who stalked and assaulted him is literally disgusting to me. Victims aren't obliged to do that, once you assault someone you lose that right. If anything, the men around the world are now warned about Fiona, and it could save a future victim considering she is still unhinged.
